Project's Primary Objective: Strengthen formal and transitional education systems that encourage working children and those at risk of working to attend school.

Description of Organization: The May 1st Society developed a democratic Network Activities Model where the community's nuclei carry out interdependent socio-educative activities, with decision making capacity, but with the administration centralized at May 1st Society. The elections are preceded by assemblies within the respective groups to discuss issues and choose candidate representatives. Examples of activities include health work aimed at HIV-AIDS education for children and youth, and non-traditional teaching using cultural history and arts but also processing children through the formal system.

Description of Project funded by CIRCLE: This CIRCLE project was developed in close consultation with the community, which suggested the creation of a "club" (Cluberê), where reinforcement classes will be given so as to reintegrate child laborers into their families, schools, and community. The strategy created by the group of educators was to develop a socio-educative project starting from cultural activities, and sports. This way these children would develop the pleasure of being children and return to school. A monthly allowance will be given to the family of these children with the condition that they would attend "Cluberê." The project's main goal is to strengthen community awareness and informal education programs.
