Project's Primary Objective: Strengthen formal and transitional education systems that encourage working children and those at risk of working to attend school.

Description of Organization: Parent & Child Foundation (PACF) was registered in 1996 and works to promote and protect the Rights of the Child in Kokrobite and its environs. PACF has undertaken numerous interventions, such as:
  • Broad sensitization meetings with 3,800 in-school children and the adult population, and formation of the first anti-child trafficking clubs in schools (Sponsored by ILO/IPEC Lutrena);
  • Enrolled and provided educational stipend for 100 trafficked children in school (Sponsored by DANIDA); and
  • Rehabilitated the temporary structure of the J.S.S. 1 classroom block of the Kokrobite D/A school to a partially completed permanent structure. (Sponsored by a Winrock/CIRCLE UAC).
PACF also collaborates with other partners like UNICEF and UN Systems Gender Programme to advocate for the Rights of the Child.

Description of Project funded by CIRCLE: PACF's CIRCLE project aims to strengthen formal education in Kokrobite through improved basic infrastructure facilities for the Kokrobite D/A School. The project will:
  • Complete refurbishing works on the J.S.S. 1 classroom block;
  • Convene stakeholders meeting with the school, the District Assembly (D/A), Ghana Education Service (GES), selected Parent Teacher Association (PTA) members and the Traditional Authority;
  • Enroll and retain at-risk children in formal education;
  • Strengthen anti-child trafficking clubs in school, using peer education and provision of educational materials; and
  • Sensitize children and PTA on child labour and the benefits of education.
