Project's Primary Objective: Raise awareness of the hazards of child labor and the importance of education for all children and mobilize a wide array of actors to improve and expand education infrastructure.

Description of Organization: ASHA (HOPE) is a registered society under the state Society Registration Act of 1860. Since its inception in 1988, the organization has been instrumental in responding to abject poverty situation in the state of Orissa and especially in the district of Sambalpur, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar. The organization has focused on women and children and at present implementing a child sponsorship project for 800 children in the district of Keonjhar. The issue of child rights is prioritized by the organization and the women groups in the above districts during the last 12 years.

Description of Project funded by CIRCLE: Primary objective: Raise awareness of the hazards of child labor and the importance of education for all children and mobilize a wide array of actors to improve and expand education infrastructure.

Sub objectives:
  • To raise awareness among the poor tribal parents of child labor
  • To strengthen and build the capacity of the people’s institution on the issue of education and child labor
  • To strengthen and enhance education performance and deliveries of line departments

Community & child centered focus

The entire project is planned through the community need assessment appraised by the existing Nari Sangha. The urgent need of educational facility by and large felt by the members of Nari Sangha and hence 10-community level education centers are already running in the project villages. In the current project the entire management and monitoring of the activities will be accomplished by the community and facilitated by ASHA. The children will actively take part in mobilizing the working children.
