Project's Primary Objective: Objective # 2 - Strengthening Formal and Informal Educational System

Description of Organization: ENDA/Mali was founded in Mali in 1987 with the objective of fighting against poverty and promote citizenship. The main beneficiaries are children in difficult situations, children and young laborers, neighborhood development associations, girls and women, and rural communities.

The activities are centered on 5 programs, which include:
  • a health program;
  • a support program children and youth in difficult situation;
  • a support program for local initiatives;
  • a support program for alternative education and literacy; and
  • a professional training program and support for income generating activities.
ENDA Mali is a member of several NGO networks.

Description of Project funded by CIRCLE: The Community Action Program in Educational Targeting Exploited Children Project will be implemented in the Segou region in Mali and covers 97 villages from 6 communes.

The main objective of the project is to strengthen the educational systems in 6 communes through:
  • Information, Communication, and Education activities that raise awareness on the importance of education, the hazards of child labor; and
  • The improvement of the school environment though the renovation of classrooms, teacher training, equipment of schools, provision of learning material.

Project Targets (Common Indicators):
Enrollment: increase the rate of education in the area from 23 to 65%.
Persistence: reduce the percentage of children out of school from 17 to 2%
1600 students stay in some form of education
Completion: 17% of non-education children to be literate
