Name of Organization: Associación Mujer Família (AMF) Country: Peru Project Title: "La Reducción del Trabajo Infantil Doméstico" (RTID) (Reducing Child Domestic Work) Project Timeframe: 24 Months Location of Project: Rural and urban areas of Cajamarca Budget Amount: $100,000.00 NGO contact and website: Ms. Socorro Zurita, Jr. Jorge Isaac 299, Urbanizacion Bosque, Cajamarca Peru Office: 076 827166, 076 827916 Fax: 076 827916 Email: amujerfamila@yahoo.es Project's Primary Objective: Objective # 2 - Strengthening Formal and Informal Educational Systems Description of Organization: Asociación Mujer Familia (AMF) is a non-profit institution, legally established on March 2, 1983 to advocate for women, children and youth’s rights and to foster a family model that envisions equity, entrepreneurship and vocational development and participation, preserving the Andean culture. AMF works to strengthen local capacity to foster assertive action within the family unit so as to increase participation at the community level for its own development, with special focus on gender and cultural issues. Specific objectives include: (1) create awareness regarding children’s rights; (2) strengthen family ties to become a socio-economical support nuclei, fostering active citizens; (3) promote gender equity; (4) develop institutional systems to enhance processes, politics, management and monitoring and evaluation; and, (5) promote institutional sustainability by enhancing capacity to diversify services. The focus areas include: participatory planning; capacity building and development of educational materials; mobilization of target groups; support to initiatives focusing on income generation; development of artistic and cultural values to enhance personal development, abilities, capacities, creativity and self-esteem. Description of Project funded by CIRCLE: La Reducción del Trabajo Infantil Doméstico (RTDI) will contribute to the prevention and elimination of child domestic work. RTDI has four strategies that guide the project: (1) foster Child Domestic Workers (CDWs) persistence by increasing quality of education (teachers and directors receive training); (2) increase public awareness using participatory approaches; (3) enhance CDW leadership skills by providing training focusing on building self-esteem and self-confidence, understanding children’s rights, communication abilities, as well as increase creativity and school performance through the development of cultural activities and after school studies; and (4) cultivate watch guards in community and schools to strengthen interventions to deal with CDWs. The project will benefit 200 CDWs with age below 14 years from both rural and urban areas in Cajamarca, 100 CDWs between 14 and 18 years old and 280 families, 30 health agents, 50 employers and 50 teachers.
