Project's Primary Objective: Strengthen formal and transitional education systems that encourage working children and those at risk of working to attend school. (Secondary: Raise awareness of the importance of education for all children, and mobilize a wide array of actors to improve and expand education infrastructures.)

Description of Organization: ISAT is a non-governmental development organization that has worked on the problem of artisan mining since 1995. Initial interventions focused narrowly on occupational health, and later the NGO created a total program on Artisan Mining focusing on the health of the workers, fortification of social organizations, enterprise management, promotion of clean technologies and eradication of child work.

Description of Project funded by CIRCLE: This CIRCLE project will develop sensitization and training pilot experience – for parents, political, educational and local authorities and children and teenagers – about the dangers, risks and effects of children's work in small-scale mining, including the life-long impact on health, social abilities, economic prospects, and environmental health. The project will also involve the active participation of children in social surveillance and social communication actions to eradicate child labor, by shaping a network of promoters and school reporters and strengthening the educational system.
