Description of Organization: The Kapatiran Komunidad People's Coalition (KKPC) is a community-based people's organization led and managed by community leaders representing the urban poor community in Quezon City, Philippines. It aims for integrated development of the community and implements – in partnership with local government, non-government and international organizations – a wide array of initiatives in health, income generation, and education, among others for children and their families. KKPC currently manages four-day care/healing centers strategically located in the community. Community volunteers take turns managing the organization's activities. Description of Project funded by CIRCLE: KKPC's CIRCLE project targets the provision of appropriate and relevant educational services to 150 at-risk and urban poor working children in the community. Formal and non-formal education support will be provided in the form of tuition-related expenses, school supplies, and uniforms. Supportive and sustainable activities will be implemented such as the establishment of an educational resource and support center where children will receive tutorials and counselling by trained day care teachers, parents and youth auxiliaries; undergo continuing awareness on child rights, child labor and value of education; and have access to a library and computers. At the end of the project, KKPC/CIRCLE hopes that 100% of the children will persist in the program; 100% will be promoted to the next educational level; and 80% of working children and those at risk will either be prevented from engaging in hazardous work or reduced their participation in such work. Through continuous capacity building for parents, children, teachers; and advocacy work with city officials, KKPC hopes that community groups will develop plans for project sustainability as well as start plans for improving families' economic status. Project Targets (Common Indicators): Enrollment: 150 at-risk and working children Persistence: 100% Transition: 100% to their next grade levels Completion: 100% |
