Project's Primary Objective: Strengthen formal and transitional education systems that encourage working children and those at risk of working to attend school.

Description of Organization: For the last six years, CCF has been operating in the sphere of child labor through public private partnerships. CCF is a Pakistan-based NGO operating in the Sheikhupra, Faisalabad, Karachi, Lahore & Attock areas where large number of children are involved in carpet, agriculture, brick-kiln and auto workshops. Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PCME), ILO, CIDA, AusAID, STEP Foundation Switzerland and individual donors have facilitated CCF to establish over 390 non-formal education (NFE) centers in the districts of Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Karachi, Lahore & Attock where about 14,000 children (70% girls) are working in the carpet industry, agriculture, and other sectors. Some children are receiving free education, vocation training and recreational facilities. Over 1,900 of these children have been mainstreamed into government schools in the last two years. 115 centers, established by CCF in Sheikhupura District with ILO support, have provided the following services to children belonging to carpet weaving families: non-formal education, recreational facilities, vocational training, and medical check-ups.

Description of Project funded by CIRCLE: As part of the CIRCLE project, CCF will bolster five NFE centers, supplementing government efforts to combat child labour through education. These centers will provide literacy training, vocational training, and recreational facilities for working children whose prospects for future skilled employment are currently inhibited by their lack of education. CCF will reduce the incidence of child labour in the selected villages in Sheikhupura, where more than 200 working children will benefit along with an equal number of families and about 40 community members who will be involved in the establishment and running of the NFE centers. Local community members will monitor project activities, and CCF will also set up in-house monitoring and inspection systems. CCF will adopt an inclusive, participatory strategy, with children, parents, community members, local activists and elected representatives included in the various program components. CCF has been working to develop a comprehensive strategy to combat child labour in its various forms
