The related activities include community authorities and law enforcement agents training, peer group educators and monitors training, focal point teachers training, support to children (uniforms, learning materials and payment of school charges), radio and community discussions on child labor/trafficking act Description of Organization: Community Action for Rural Development – Sierra Leone (CARD – SL) is a National Non –Governmental Organization that started operations as a Community Based Organization in June 1987. CARD has a national co-ordination office in Bo (southern region) and a Field office in Koidu (Kono District –eastern region). Staff strength includes Water and Sanitation Technicians, Skills Trainers, Food Access Rights and Community Mobilizers, and Functional Adult Literacy and Livelihood Promotion. Over the last five years CARD has implemented projects including Skills training for youths (12 –18 years) in five locations (Gandorhun, Manowa, Gbalahun , Kombayendeh and Segbwema) for a total beneficiary figure of 340 including ex-child combatants, girl mothers and other community youths. Skill areas included tailoring, carpentry, masonry, weaving, gara tye dye and soap making. German Technical Corporation (GTZ –IS) in Sierra Leone funded four of these projects. During 2003 CARD SL implemented a project that has an integrated outlook. The sectors include agriculture (provision of planting materials, seeds, tools, farmers training and livestock restocking)., support to community micro credit groups with revolving loan schemes. These groups also received business management skills training and coaching at the field level. Community infrastructure development (schools, stores and community latrines.) through construction sector was done. Skills training activities particularly targeting youths (14 – 18 years) in the categories of ex – child combatants, girl mothers and other community youths form part of the project. These were trained in specific life skills (masonry, carpentry, gara dying and soap making and tailoring). Other support soft skills training in Literacy and numeracy, psychosocial counseling, HIV AIDS and Hygiene promotion and civic education are provided. In 2004 CARD embarked on the implementation of fifty-four "community driven" micro projects with support from UNHCR through GTZ IS. It’ also implemented food security freedom and Human Right promotion project in Sixteen (16) communities with support from Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives. The Institution has a Management Board. Sierra Leone Commercial and Rokel Commercial Banks are the institutions Bankers. Currently the Institution has six operational accounts (four in the former and two in the latter). CARD is a Partner to CARE Human Right and Development Centre (HuRiDeC) and the Bo District Human Right Forum Description of Project funded by CIRCLE: This project "Community Awareness Raising to Enforce (CARE) anti child labor/trafficking act" will be implemented for eight months in the Tunkia chiefdom. It will target community authorities, elders, youths, law enforcement agents, peer group educators and monitors and teachers to increase awareness on child labor and anti child trafficking act of Sierra Leone to promote vigilance The implementation strategies include mass community sensitization, training/workshops, radio discussions, enrollment and support of children, support of peer educators/monitors and focal point teachers to facilitate community documentation and action. Established community structures will be networked at sectional, chiefdom with the District law enforcement bodies including Family Support Unit of the Sierra Leone Police The expected results/ outcomes will include
